Over the course of the past decade, the university has consolidated its position in the top 100 on the most influential rankings of universities world-wide.A one year postdoc position in structural investigations of bone with particular focus on bones from osteoarthritis patients is available at iNANO, Aarhus University, Denmark in the group of Associate Professor Henrik Birkedal. The position is to be filled as soon as possible, and as at 1 December 2016 at the latest.

We search for a candidate to conduct research on the use of multi-length scale synchrotron X-ray imaging techniques to bone. Techniques include synchrotron tomography, nano-tomography as well as diffraction / scattering computed tomography (Nanoscale 2015, 7: 18402-18410). The main focus of the position is studies of bone from osteoarthrosis patients and controls but other materials will also be relevant.

The candidate should have a solid background in materials science, medicine, chemistry, or physics with documented experience in X-ray diffraction, scattering or imaging. Candidates with experience with synchrotron experiments and/or bone will be preferred. Experience with computer programming will be considered an additional plus.

The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), (inano.au.dk), is an international research and education nanoscience centre based at Aarhus University, Denmark. The centre undertakes interdisciplinary research involving scientists from relevant areas in physics, chemistry, molecular biology, biology, engineering, and medicine. iNANO offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with many national and international collaborators.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated.
